  4. Welcome to Cancer for Macintosh, part of the Corel Medical
  5. Series.

  7. This document provides important information regarding
  8. Cancer for Macintosh that wasn't available when the jewel 
  9. case insert was printed. Please read this document before 
  10. using Cancer.

  37. A. Known Issues

  40. 1. 32-bit addressing must be enabled
  41. ---------------------------------
  42. In order for Cancer to function properly, 32-bit addressing
  43. must be enabled on your Macintosh. See the Optimizing section
  44. below for instructions on how to accomplish this.
  45.  
  46. 2. Cancer runs slowly in high color mode
  47. ------------------------------------
  48. If you find that Cancer is running slowly on your Macintosh,
  49. try setting your monitor color settings to 256 colors. This may
  50. help increase performance. See the Optimizing section below
  51. for additional tips.
  52.  
  53. 3. System appears frozen when a text hyperlink is clicked
  54. ----------------------------------------------------
  55. Please note that when a hyperlink (red text) is clicked on,
  56. a complex search is started and your system may appear frozen
  57. momentarily. Please do not reset the system, but rather simply
  58. give the computer a little time to work and display the search
  59. results on screen. Note that some of the more complex links can
  60. take up to twenty seconds to display, and during this time there
  61. is no indication on screen that the system is "thinking"
  62.  
  63. 4. Conflict between Help function and QuickTime
  64. -------------------------------------------
  65. If the Help function is accessed while a QuickTime movie is
  66. onscreen (regardless of whether it is playing or not), a color
  67. distortion may result. To fix this, enter another project
  68. (for example, the Main Menu), and return to your original position.
  69. The color distortion will disappear.

  71. 5. Steadmans may not display properly when accessed 
  72. ------------------------------------------------
  73. Under certain conditions, if the Steadmans Medical dictionary 
  74. is accessed multiple times by closing it completely and 
  75. reopening it in the same session, an error may occur in your
  76. application. If this occurs, simply refrain from closing
  77. Steadmans Medical Dictionary, simply leave it running in the
  78. background after using it, and it therefore will be accessible
  79. whenever you need it without having to reopen it each time.

  82. B. Optimizing your system for Cancer
  83. =================================
  84.  
  85. The performance of Cancer is influenced by a number of 
  86. factors including the speed of your Macintosh, the speed of 
  87. your CD-ROM drive and the way your system is configured.  Two 
  88. factors that can influence performance are Virtual Memory and 
  89. 32-bit addressing. Check that your Macintosh has Virtual 
  90. Memory disabled and 32-bit addressing enabled.

  92. To disable Virtual Memory and enable 32-bit addressing:
  93.    1. Click Control Panels from the Apple menu.
  94.    2. Click the Memory icon.
  95.    3. Click the Off button in the Virtual Memory section.
  96.    4. Click the On button in the 32-bit Disc Addressing 
  97.       section.
  98.  
  99. NOTE: Currently the memory requirements for this application are
  100. set for the minimum hardware configuration. If your system has
  101. more than 16MB Ram memory available, you may adjust the preferred
  102. memory size on the application icon to increase the applications 
  103. performance. For further information on setting preferred memory
  104. size, consult your Macintosh system documentation.

  107. C. Trouble Shooting
  108. ================= 
  109. 
  110. 1. Clipboard objects cleared when Stedmans is launched or
  111.     Quicktime movie is played
  112. -----------------------------------------------------
  113. Please note that when the Stedmans Medical Dictionary is
  114. launched, or a Quicktime movie is played, the clipboard 
  115. contents may be cleared. If you have items stored on the
  116. clipboard for use in other applications, please be sure to save
  117. them before starting the Stedmans Medical Dictionary or playing
  118. a Quicktime movie.

  120. 2. System freezes if external volume is adjusted
  121. --------------------------------------------
  122. If your system has an external volume control, you should not
  123. attempt to adjust the volume while this Medical application is
  124. loading or accessing the CD-ROM drive. If you attempt to do this,
  125. the application or system may stop responding and you will be
  126. forced to restart.

  128. 3. Error at startup while using RAM Doubler
  129. ---------------------------------------
  130. Under certain circumstances, if you are using RAM Doubler to
  131. increase your system memory, you may experience an error at
  132. startup of this Medical title. If this situation occurs, please
  133. disable RAM Doubler before using Breastfeeding. For further
  134. information on how to temporarily disable RAM Doubler, please
  135. consult your RAM Doubler documentation.

  137. 4. Cannot run Cancer and Steadmans Dictionary at the same time
  138. ----------------------------------------------------------
  139. On some systems that are close to the minimum requirements,
  140. you may have trouble accessing Steadmans and/or the help files
  141. at the same time you are running the application. This problem 
  142. occurs due to a lack of available memory on your system. If you
  143. encounter this problem, try turning off some of your extensions
  144. (see your apple documentation), or turn on virtual memory. Note
  145. that activating virtual memory may cause some performance
  146. degredation while using this Medical Series application.
